David J Solis, lifetime member of the New York City chapter (SHPE-NYC), is running for the office of SHPE Region 4 Vice President.

Background:

David was born in New York, NY to a Peruvian father and American mother.  He has lived in the Borough of Queens in NYC his entire life.

 

Education:

David knew from an early age he had a future in technology.  He took every computer-related course he could in grammar school and high school, then proceeded to major in Computer Science where he attended college at the State University of New York at Stony Brook (now called Stony Brook University).  He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and a minor in Business Administration.

 

Professional Experience:

After graduating college, David held technical positions in various industries.  He began his career as a C programmer in the defense industry at Telephonics Corporation, working on software to monitor and control a microwave beam aircraft landing system.  He then proceeded to the publishing/new media industry at Time Inc to do web development work on a content management system that stored images.  Later, he did some independent consulting before working for BearingPoint (KPMG Consulting), which was one of the “Big 4” consulting firms at the time.  After various engagements which ranged from program management at JPMorgan Chase & Co. to UNIX and Voice-over-IP at Time Warner Cable, he took a position with Citigroup.  David has been with Citigroup for 5 years now as a senior database administrator.

 

SHPE experience:

David was a student member of SHPE at Stony Brook.  He later joined SHPE-NYC and quickly became active.  He founded and led the chapter’s first I.T. Committee in 2002 as well as starting the http://www.shpe-nyc.org web site.
